Mai took off after the rebels, happy to have a real chance at them. They had been popping up more and more frequently but she had never had a real opportunity to pursue. Already as she ran, Mai could hear her mother calling after her. She just shook her head as the cool evening air went whizzing by her. It was a smaller group than before, but none of them looked very familiar. The same men usually staged theses attacks. No matter, it didn’t affect her. Mai’s face was concentrated as her arms whipped out in front of her; three thin yet sharp daggers flying out.
She dodged the few obstacles they tried to throw at her with an easy jump and continued her chase. Mai could feel they weren’t paying her as much attention, their goal obviously to get away rather than engage her. As one peered over his shoulder Mai caught his eye. A volley of sharp arrows pierced through the air and she could see his eyes grow large. But then he was gone. The whole group, through one of their hidden passage doors built in almost all the roads of the city. Mai stopped her running and slid the dagger she was holding back into its holster.
A few Fire nation guards caught up to her, asking where the rebels had gone. As she shrugged Mai took a few steps back, letting the guards do the investigating. Her parents weren’t far behind and were soon asking if she was alright and why she would do something so rash. Mai tried to wave them off with a hand. “It’s really not that serious.” She mumbled as the family continued their walk back home. It had been her mothers idea in the first place to walk the city, since it had been ‘so lovely’ out.
